Daddy left Sunday evening to head back to academy. About an hour later, Ki had what looked like horrible bug bites on his cheeks. They were swollen and his eyes were as well. I gave him some claritin, thinking he found something while playing outside. When I changed him into pj's, I noticed the rash. It was on his chest and he said it itched. Nothing the Claritin can't fix, right? Wrong!
He woke up Monday morning and the rash was all over the front of his trunk, and all over his back as well. I called and got him a doctor's appointment. I spent the morning trying to find someone to watch the girls while I took him in. As the day progressed, so did the rash. It was going up his neck and down his bottom, and it even covered every part of his privates (poor guy). I checked myself and the girls countless times to be sure it wasn't anything we were all getting. All clear.
Dropped the girls off at a girlfriend's house and took him in. Ki was so brave and not at all nervous for the doctor. He laughed when doc checked his privates. He thought it was funny that anyone would have an interest there. The doctor went through the list of possibilities, said the rash looks like Scarlet Fever, but without any other symptoms, couldn't diagnose that. He put in to the pharmacy for calamine lotion (or pink body paint, as we call it now) and Zyrtec. Doc said to give the Zyrtec at night as it will probably make Ki pretty sleepy. WRONG! It made him off the walls hyper. I could not get him into bed until nearly 10:00! After I got him down, Ani came to the bathroom for her shower.
"Mommy, my tummy itches. Do I have Ki's rash?" I didn't want to look. I wanted to call Matthew to the bathroom to look, but the part of Daddy is being played by me for the time being, so there was no getting out of this. I lifted her dress to find the dots. UGH! Ok, definitely not an allergic reaction. I gave her a shower, put her to bed, then went to bed about an hour later, oh, at midnight. Seriously, it was a late night!
Late nights lead to late mornings. My crew woke up at about 9:30 this morning, and I was eager to get a look at Anika. Ki's rash was the same and seemed to itch more today than yesterday. Ani's rash had spread. Call the doc, get an appointment with the same, sweet, doctor, then race to get everyone dressed and there on time.
Doctor is still baffled, until he looks at Anika's throat. Red and bumpy..... not horrible, but enough for a swab and a word of caution "This won't come back for a couple days, but it looks like Scarlet Fever. If either of them had a fever, I'd give you a diagnosis right now, but they just aren't showing all the symptoms." Oh, and if it comes back positive, we get to spend another day at the clinic to get them on antibiotics. I keep checking Loey and myself over. I have a few bumps on my tummy that itch, but it could be pregnancy related. If I get it, who's gonna paint my back pink? I surely can not reach. Sigh! Doc also said to get to the ob to be sure Adith is ok. Apparently, certain viral rashes, along with other fun diseases, can get to her without me having any symptoms. Inhale, exhale..... wish he could come home for just one day of doctor appointments!
Ki and Lo are napping and Ani is ready for her lessons. She is pretty in pink and very comfortable from the calamine.
Lessons, bank, Sonic (we NEED slushies today), then dinner and bed. Can't wait to curl up in my sheets tonight!
Oh, hey, PLEASE say a prayer for my dear friend that watched the girls for me yesterday. Her husband just had open heart surgery and if this infection attacks anyone in their home, well, it would be bad, VERY bad!

oh no! hope you all recover quickly!!
I threw my back out right after dropping Daniel off for the week..these things seem to just know when Daddy is gone don't they. =\
I told the doctor that this is only happening because Daddy is gone. He said, "Oh, that's more information. I'm diagnosing YOU with Daddygonitis but I don't have anything I can prescribe from the pharmacy to keep appliances and vehicles from breaking down". HAHAHAHAHA! He knows how it goes, too! How is your back? Praying it's better and that you're functioning ok. I can't even imagine that happening with him gone!
doc with a sense of humor...that is great! so are you and baby ok?
I'm still hurting a bit but functional again at least. I'll be starting PT next week.
It'll take 48 hours to come back. Lo and I are still symptom free, but I need to have the OB check to be sure Adith is ok. I have an appointment next week, and I might wait until then to be seen. The weird thing is, for the last 3-4 days, she's been so still. I feel her get the hiccups once or twice a day, so I know she's ok, but for whatever reason, she's not moving around enough for me to feel her. I'm not liking that!
PT? Good Lord, Teri, what did you do to it? Hopefully, you're baby is in that "I can walk and I don't ever want to be held again" stage. Yikes!
Glad she is moving enough to know she is ok at least! Any chance you just aren't as aware of her movements because you've had so much else keeping your attention lately? =]
Oh my back has been messed up since I was preggo with Anneliese...it just acts up worse than usual sometimes but this has been the worst since way back then. Carolynne still needs to be held at times but most of the time she is running around destroying everything she can get her little hands on now HA! Is Lo in that stage yet too??
No, not yet. She stands on her own at times, but I have to admit, I'm trying to delay her walking. Hubby graduates Jun 9th. She'll be just over 14 months at that time, and I'll be so glad if she waits to walk until then. I know he could see some first steps over a weekend, but I want him here for the process. I haven't encouraged walking from her at all. She climbs, though, everything! She even climbed my son's bunk bed and got on top!
Lex, Glad you found out- Erik had that when he was 7 but all his skin was peeling. Lizzy got it just a bit ago, but her rash was really small, it was the other symptoms that were so bad...
